Many people in their lifetimes experience trauma in numerous forms, which creates deep-seated symptoms that can range from not feeling connected to their physical body, difficulty breathing, chronic pain, pain with sex, or difficulty in childbirth. Pelvic Floor Therapy is one piece of the healing process that can help address the trauma we continue to hold within our bodies. It is important to work with a provider who brings sensitivity, compassion, and kindness to your sessions.
Conditions Pelvic Floor Therapy can help:
- Post-surgery recovery and pain
- Postpartum recovery and pain
- Issues with urination
- Pelvic organ prolapse
- Chronic low back pain
- Sexual dysfunction
- Reduce the risk of preterm labor
- Chronic pelvic pain
What does an Integrative pelvic therapy appointment involve?
First, we will review your medical history and evaluate your symptoms. Then a physical exam. An external assessment determines contributing factors from the back, hips, legs, and abdominal muscles. An internal evaluation of the pelvic floor muscles to assess the strength of the muscles, address trigger points, and teach relaxation of the pelvic floor muscles. Your appointment also includes education about pelvic anatomy and possible psychosocial connections to your symptoms. You are in charge throughout your appointment! Sometimes patients start with external therapy only and then move on to internal work when ready. Your treatment plan includes in-office and at-home muscle exercises, relaxation exercises, and naturopathic modalities.
